What Is Bolted Steel Silo?

Leave a message

Bolted steel silos are storage facilities constructed by using prefabricated technology with steel sheet materials. It is an important type of silo in the modern silo field, distinct from traditional concrete silos and the like. Its basic composition is made up of specially processed steel sheet units, which are quickly assembled on site according to the design plan. This type of silo takes advantage of the excellent strength and toughness of steel sheets, capable of withstanding certain pressure and external forces. Moreover, it can be flexibly designed and constructed according to different usage requirements and site conditions.

The Characters of Structure

Steel Material

Usually, high-quality steel is adopted, which has undergone special anti-corrosion treatments, such as hot-dip galvanizing and other processes. Hot-dip galvanizing can form a dense protective layer on the surface of steel sheets, effectively isolating air and moisture, preventing steel from rusting and corroding, and thus extending the service life of steel silos. Steel sheets of different thicknesses are selected based on factors such as the size of the silo, the weight and type of the stored materials. Generally, the thickness of the silo wall steel sheets is between 2 and 6 millimeters.

Bolted Structure

Its notable feature is the adoption of a modular design, with each steel sheet component being produced in a standardized manner in the factory. These components have precise dimensions and interfaces, just like building blocks, and can be quickly and accurately assembled on the construction site. This prefabricated structure significantly shortens the construction period, reduces the workload of on-site construction and the impact on the surrounding environment. For instance, a bolted steel silo with a capacity of 500 tons, constructed using prefabricated methods, can have its construction time reduced by more than half compared to traditional silo types.

Roof Structure

The top roof of the silo is generally designed as an arched structure. This structure has excellent mechanical properties, can evenly distribute the pressure borne by the top of the silo, and at the same time can effectively drain water to prevent rainwater from accumulating on the top of the silo. The common forms of silo roof include bolted connection type and welded type. The bolted connection type is convenient for installation and disassembly, and is suitable for some temporary or frequently movable occasions. The welded type has better sealing performance and integrity, and is suitable for large steel sheet silos that are used for long-term fixed purposes.

Bottom Types

The bottom structure of the silo has two types: flat bottom and hopper bottom. The flat-bottomed silo has a simple bottom structure and is easy to install. It is suitable for storing materials with good fluidity, such as grains and cement. The hopper bottom of the silo is conducive to the self-flow discharge of materials, reducing the residue of materials in the silo. It is suitable for occasions with high discharge requirements, such as the storage of some powdered materials.
